Heavyweight tag teams top the bill at wrestling spectacular
Nearly 100st of power-packed might and muscle will crash-land in the ring at Worthing Assembly Hall next week.
The UK Pitbulls, arguably the most sensational tag team in wrestling, are set to clash with reigning Premier Wrestling Federation champions Kris Kay and James Kenna in a huge top of the bill battle on the big half-term grappling spectacular on Monday (February 20).
The current line-up of the Pitbulls, who threaten the scales at a combined weight of 58st, consists of Mike Walters, aka The Bulk, reputedly Europe’s heaviest wrestler, and his partner, Big Joe, and are a reincarnation of the original team of brothers Mike and Dave Waters, who retired as the undefeated PWF champions and remain the most successful tag team in PWF history.
They defended the title on a number of occasions in Worthing, and barring a couple of disqualifications and a no-contest decision were beaten only twice in 28 bouts in Premier Promotions rings between 2003 and 2008.
It all came to a shuddering halt, however, when Dave Waters suffered a crippling knee injury while taking part in a strongman competition, and in the aftermath Mike, who is also a drummer in a heavy rock band, hung up his wrestling boots.
Now The Bulk is back with new man Big Joe on a mission to destroy every tag team in the country and recapture the tag-team title, and although Kay, who is also the PWF heavyweight champion, and 6ft 7in Kenna, are not exactly on the small side at around 20st, the question the fans will be asking is: Have they bitten off more than they can chew with the Pitbulls?
The main supporting feature on the card will see “The Twisted Genius” Dean Ayass in the corner of his latest protege Rob Cage when he takes on Norfolk flyer Jimmy Starr, while the line-up will also include “The Prince of Mumbai” Rishi Ghosh and local favourites Barry Cooper and Carl Brady.
The action kicks off at 7.45pm, and tickets, including special reserved ringside seats and reduced prices for advance bookings, are available from the box office, telephone 01903 206206, or online via the Worthing Theatres website
