Staff at St Richard’s Hospital in West Sussex applauded and cheered as coronavirus patient Donna Morgan was discharged today after 92 days.

For three months, staff at the hospital have cared for the 52-year-old, who fell ill with the virus in mid-March.

She was put in an induced coma and spent many weeks in intensive care.

Today, after a total of 92 days in hospital, she was finally allowed to go home.

Video footage shows Donna waving and smiling at staff lining the corridors.

Outside the hospital waited family and friends holding signs and banners, who erupted into applause when they say her.

Observer reader Teresa Parfoot commented online: “Heard the clapping, as I live near the hospital looked out and saw everyone, so special.”

During the time that Donna was being treated, her husband Toby Morgan launched a fundraising drive that has seen him raise more than £110,000 for St Richard’s Hospital so far – read more here.

Funds from the ‘Come on Donna’ campaign will be used to develop a holistic service for staff, patients and families affected by Covid-19 at the hospital – find out more here.

Residents and well-wishers rallied to the cause, dressing up every Thursday for Clap for Carers at 8pm to different themes – see photos here.

Others ran marathons, rode their bikes, held raffles and made cakes to raise funds – see more here.
