To coincide with International Nurses Day on Tuesday, May 12, West Dean Gardens, near Chichester, are extending an open invitation to NHS nurses and all their NHS colleagues to visit the award-winning gardens for free, once the gardens reopen.

Alexander Barron, chief executive, West Dean College of Arts and Conservation, said: “In these extraordinary times, the important role that the staff of the NHS play in our lives has become more evident than ever, and this is our small gesture of thanks. As we know from recent NHS research, the outdoors is key to everyone’s wellbeing, and we hope our beautiful gardens can be a space for NHS staff to escape to and experience some tranquillity, whether it be for a stroll around the stunning walled gardens or a walk up to the arboretum.”

The Weald & Downland Living Museum is also showing its support.

Marketing manager Emma Keen said the venue would be giving back to “our cherished nurses” in celebration of International Nurses Day.

“Wouldn’t it be lovely to be able to give back to our hard-working nurses, so they can relax, enjoy and take a break from the stresses of the past few months? What better way than by visiting a 40-acre site in the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park. A perfect place to unwind in a tranquil setting.

“To show our appreciation and in celebration of International Nurses Day, the Weald & Downland Living Museum are enabling you, the public, to give back to our wonderful nurses by saying thank you, in the form of a day at the Museum. For every Thank You ticket you purchase for a nurse, the Museum will match it, ticket for ticket!

“Thank You tickets will be available for purchase from May 12 until the Museum can reopen. All tickets will be allocated to local NHS nurses and the nurses working in the care home sector. Visit https://wealddownland.digitickets.co.uk/tickets (or www.wealddown.co.uk/nurses if in print) to purchase your Thank You ticket.

"We are encouraging people to buy a ticket for a nurse and we will match each ticket, so if 10 tickets are purchased by the public, the museum will give an extra 10, equaling 20 tickets given to nurses."
