Sussex coronavirus deaths and infection numbers - These are the latest figures

The number of Covid-19 related deaths in Sussex hospitals has risen by ten since last week, according to NHS England’s latest figures.

According to the figures released today (May 24), there have been 36,675 COVID-19 related deaths in the UK — 544 of which in hospital trusts that serve Sussex. This shows an increase of ten since last Sunday (May 17).

Of this number, 342 deaths were in hospital trusts which serve West Sussex and 202 were in trusts which serve East Sussex, including Brighton and Hove.

These totals do not include people who have died outside of hospital, for example in care homes or in the community.

According to the data released by Public Health England, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in West Sussex now stands at 1,307, with another 675 in East Sussex and 417 in Brighton and Hove.

The number of people who have died from Covid-19 in hospitals operated within Sussex trusts are as follows:

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 96 (Trust runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham)

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust – 15 (Trust runs community health services across West Sussex, Brighton and Hove)

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – 231 (Trust runs Horsham Hospital, Crawley Hospital as well as East Surrey Hospital in Redhill)

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust – 123 (Trust runs Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath)

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – 79 (Trust runs the Eastbourne District General Hospital, the Conquest Hospital in Hastings and Bexhill Hospital)
