In response to the Prime Minister’s speech last night, leaders from Adur and Worthing said it would be reviewing the details of the new guidance now it has been issued by Whitehall.

However, with the limits to daily exercise expected to be lifted on Wednesday, the Councils reminded the public to continue to keep two metres distance from those not in their household when outdoors.

Following the government guidance the reopening of public toilets and car parks is being considered. This will only be subject to government guidelines and latest national advice on tackling COVID-19.

A councils spokesman said: “As the Prime Minister made clear in his statement last night this is not the end of the lockdown.

“For this reason we continue to urge our residents and visitors to continue to stick to social distancing guidelines and be considerate when sharing spaces with other people. This is especially important in areas where large numbers are likely to congregate, such as parks, the seafront and South Downs.

“As far as the services provided by the councils, we are continuing to work around the clock to try to ensure that, as far as is humanly possible, we are keeping to business as usual.

“Our refuse collection services are still operating normally, as are a range of other services, including street cleansing, revenues & benefits, housing, rough sleeper and customer support teams.

“We are also continuing to lead the effort in our communities to ensure the vulnerable receive support and advice to access food and other vital supplies during this time.

“We would ask that as much as possible residents continue to use our online self-service tools on our website – www.adur-worthing.gov.uk.”
