A NHS trust’s response to the Shoreham Airshow disaster has helped it to plan for large-scale incidents.
The response of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which delivers mental health care, was discussed at its directors meeting on Wednesday.
Finance director Sally Flint said they ‘responded well’ in administering care to people with post-traumatic stress who were there.
“When these things happen we step up to the plate, but we need to recognise the impact they have on day-to-day service.”
The importance of simulation training days with police and other authorities focusing on how they would deal with a emergency scenario, such as a terrorist attack or flu pandemic, was also underlined.
How the trust’s communications team can be best used to notify patients, staff and stakeholders of emergencies was also discussed, including the use of the website.
