A-level results: Sir Robert Woodard Academy

Performing arts and health and social care students led the way on A-level results day at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy in Lancing.

Students and staff are celebrating as 53 per cent of students achieved the top grades of A*-B, an increase versus last year.

There was also an increase in the achievement of top students, with 23 per cent of candidates achieving an A* or equivalent. In maths, English and history one in three students achieved an A* or A.

Among the many successes, students excelled in maths with an 86 per cent A*-C pass rate, 67 per cent of students in geography achieved an A*-C pass and in English 67 per cent of students passed with an A*-B grade.

The successes of previous years continued in health and social care with 100 per cent of all students gaining the

equivalent of an A* or A grade.

In the performing arts department, all students achieved the equivalent of an A* grade. Students achieved these

results in disciplines ranging from acting, production arts, and music technology.

Among the top achievers at the academy were Josh Baker, who got four A grades in sociology, English literature, geography and history; Sammy Clegg, who got an A* in mathematics an A in English literature and a B in further maths; Thomas Nulty, who got an A* in Mathematics A grades in further maths and physics and a B in chemistry.

Danielle Herrington got three A*s in history, economics and her extended project, and a C in mathematics.

Peter Midwinter, principal of the academy, said: “These results reflect the talents of the students and the ability of committed and professional staff to ensure students succeed.

“The quality of the results demonstrates a continuing upward trend and achieving 53 per cent of A* to B grades is over double where the results were in 2013.
