Carl Tupper spent his time on furlough experimenting with recipes at his Southfield Road home, inspired by burgers he has enjoyed all over the world since 2017.

While his day job is a territory manager for Sussex Cricket’s community department, Carl also runs a popular Instagram account, @myburgerjourney, where he documents the delicious burgers he tries on his travels.

“The response has been overwhelming,” said Carl.

“Support from friends and local people has been incredible. I hope that we are able to continue to build our reputation and demonstrate our passion for burgers to as many people as possible in the coming weeks and months.

“Lockdown gave me the opportunity to experiment with a few ideas for burgers and allowed me to develop the recipes to get the perfect combinations. The menu is small, but mighty!

“I’ve always been interested in creating burgers and seeing how other people build them, all over the world. The burger scene in Australia a couple of years back was huge and a real inspiration.”

Anticipation for Carl’s burgers grew after he shared pictures on social media and his opening night collection slots were filled in under 24 hours.

More than 30 customers arrived at his front door to collect a total of 25 burgers - numbers that have been repeated on two further dates since.

Burger Journey’s menu consists of three burgers served in brioche buns with the option to add homemade fries.

Bacon Jammy is a smashed beef patty alongside homemade bacon jam, double American cheese, mayo, mustard, crispy fried onions and shredded lettuce.
