Sussex Yacht Club supports Shoreham care home ‘desperately short of PPE equipment’

The Sussex Yacht Club in Brighton Road is acting as a drop off point for disposable overalls, disposable gloves, masks, hand gel, gowns and aprons.

Kevin Headon, the Club Commodore, said: “One of our members owns and manages a residential care home and they are desperately short of PPE equipment.

“So, we’ve asked all our members to bring in any spares that they might have at home so that it can be distributed amongst the care homes that need them.

“It’s unthinkable that key workers are having to care for the vulnerable during a pandemic without the right kit.

“We want to thank Zoe and Alan Fry of Valerie Manor in Upper Beeding for ensuring that all the PPE is distributed to the care homes that are so desperately in need of it.

The club is also asking for donations of materials which will be made into gowns and masks for the NHS and care homes by local volunteers.

Mr Headon said: “This can be anything from a duvet cover, sheet or pillowcase – and it really doesn’t matter what the pattern is.

“The only stipulations are that it’s not black or has brocade and that it’s clean, untorn and folded.

“The important thing is for them to have the linen that they need to make the essential kit that’s needed by those brave people who are on the front line.

“If there’s anyone who’s local with a sewing machine who would like to help make scrubs then, please let us know.”

Spare PPE equipment or linen can be brought to the Sussex Yacht Club on Brighton Road, Shoreham and left in the foyer between 10am and midday on Fridays.

Anyone who is self-isolating can email [email protected] with their name, address and a phone number and the club will arrange for someone to collect donations from their doorstep.

He added: “Every Thursday evening, we see so much love and appreciation for the NHS and the key workers who are keeping the country going right now.

“So, we’re doing what we can to help them.”
