Small businesses are crucial to a thriving economy

Such are their importance, the partnership is returning to sponsor the small business category at this year’s Adur and Worthing Business Awards.

Chairman Andrew Swayne said: “The AWBP recognises the importance of the small businesses to the local economy and the need for the partnership to take a lead on delivering projects which can respond directly to the needs of our local businesses.

“This is the third year the AWBP has sponsored the small business award, reflecting the importance we place on this type of business to the economy.”

Over the past year, the partnership has increased its membership, with representatives from our local businesses and colleges coming together to provide support for the local economy.

It has funded several projects which seek to promote the area for business, provide hands on support for businesses and develop young people’s employability skills.

Mr Swayne said: “The AWBP continues to work towards ensuring we have a strong, local economy with inward investment and support for our existing businesses.

“In the year ahead several strategic level developments will come forward in our area and the AWBP will ensure that it plays an influential part in representing the views of our businesses.”

The AWBP is playing a key role in ensuring Adur and Worthing benefits from City Deal, a £173 million investment in the Greater Brighton area and a £202 million investment in the Coast to Capital area through the Growth Deal.

Mr Swayne added there were many challenges to overcome.

“There are challenges ahead in securing economic growth and the AWBP will continue to expand its membership to provide a vibrant forum for businesses and organisations, who share a common goal in meeting those challenges and influencing the funding decision makers,” he said.
