New dermatology service now available in Eastbourne

A new consultant-led dermatology clinic, in partnership with the NHS, has launched in Eastbourne.

The clinic at East Sussex Outpatients Services (ESOPS), situated at The Chaseley Trust building on South Cliff Road, offers all patients a rapidly accessible service for diagnosis and initial treatment of undiagnosed rashes and lesions. Led by consultant, Dr Jan von der Werth, there is one clinic a week, with current referral waiting times of only two weeks.

The clinic aims to compliment the currently available services at the two local hospitals and the Community Dermatology Service, so patients can ask their GPs about referral options to this clinic.

Dr von der Werth said: “I am excited about the prospect of offering additional dermatological expertise in Primary Care. I believe that the creation of the Community Dermatology Service back in 2010 has led to improved quality of care for many patients with skin disorders but there still remains a substantial unfilled need in this field. I am grateful to ESOPS for offering the chance to address this.”

ESOPS opened in Eastbourne 10 years ago, working in partnership with the NHS it offers GPs and patients an efficient alternative to going to the local hospital for a vast range of specialist diagnostic tests, procedures and consultations.

It has welcomed in excess of 25,000 patients over the past decade helping to relieve pressure on local hospitals and reduce waiting times for many procedures in the areas of urology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and colorectal among many others.
