The vacant space in South Street will be filled by 15:17 Limited in the company's latest acquisition of vacant department store space.

Since 2018, the company has acquired sites formerly held by companies including BHS, House of Fraser and Beales and has now signed a 10-year lease for 35,000 sq ft of retail space in South Street.

Alongside typical retail offerings, 15:17's department stores are known to include fitness classes, cafés. soft play areas and opticians in a response to the shift in focus on the high street from conventional retail to leisure experiences.

Local estate agents Michael Jones and Co and Spratt and Son Commercial secured the deal and Jon Justice, associate director at Michael Jones, confirmed there would be more investment in the site owned by landlord St Clair Developments.

“We were delighted to have been instructed on this project and excited to see what they will bring to Worthing’s community," he said.

"Alongside the commitment from 15:17 Ltd, we’re pleased to say that a further 4,000 sq ft of retail space has been let to seven independent retailers, and we’re already in advanced negotiations for a serviced office provider to take on the remaining 7,500 sq ft of the second floor vacated by Beales.

"With such encouraging signs for the rejuvenation of Worthing’s retail sector we are excited to continue working alongside Spratt & Son for St Clair Developments in finding suitable parties for the rest of the scheme – it’s going to provide many new jobs for the people of Worthing when life returns to normal.”

15:17 Limited hopes to open its doors at the earliest opportunity, when safety for its customers can be guaranteed following the removal of government restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
