Wordfest set to return for sixth year

The annual Shoreham Wordfest festival returns for its sixth year this weekend.

This year, it will run in partnership with the Ropetackle Centre, from Saturday (October 1) to Sunday October 9.

The theme of the festival is ‘A Fine Frenzy’ and will feature local luminaries, national authors and international performers.

John Grace, the political sketch writer, will give his humorous take on some of Shakespeare’s plays and Shon Dale Hughes of Hoi Polloi theatre will be present with his Edinburgh Fringe success, The Duke.

All proceeds from the events will go to the Child Refugee Fund.

There will also be a feast of exciting new writing workshops, walks, talks, children’s theatre, and the opportunity to star in the annual short story and poetry slam hosted by Tom Cutler on Sunday October 9.

Mady Mantelin, a Parisian actress, will perform extracts from the famous French novel Madame Bovary in both French and English.

Oggy Boytchev, former producer for John Simpson BBC foreign correspondent, is expected to give a riveting talk in The New World Order and The Rise of Terrorism.

On the lighter side, Wordfest patron Simon Brett will be holding a humorous talk and there will be talks and walks highlighting Sussex history and landscape throughout the festival.

A children’s puppet show, the Three Little Pigs, will be held on Saturday October 8.

All events will be held at the Ropetackle Centre apart from the Shoreham singers concert which will be held at the Shoreham methodist church and the riverbank walk to St Nicolas’ Church with Geoff Mead.
