From giant IMAX screens to the latest in 3D images, the days of the silent black and white movie with a piano playing in the background are firmly consigned to history.

But now, just when you thought it could get no more more exciting, films have exploded into a whole new dimension - touching virtually all the senses.

Not only does the giant screen deliver 3D perfection and amazing synchronised sound but the seats move in time to the roll of the camera while scents, water droplets and mists create the impression you are part of the movie itself.

Wake up and smell the coffee is an old expression which means get real.

It gets no more real than this.

You can actually smell the coffee when the action of a film dictates - but you won’t need to wake up to it. The rollercoaster nature of the new 4DX means there’s little chance of falling asleep.

The Crawley launch - it’s Cineworld’s third and their furthest South - represents a huge investment in Sussex and audiences are expected to come from across the region.

Matt Eyre, Cineworld Senior Vice President of Operations, and Matthew Blinch General Manager at Crawley unveiled the new auditorium with a special showing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.

The film showed the 136 seat auditorium to full effect.

4DX has been adopted by the big Hollywood Studios with more than 200 movies. Mr Eyre said: “This is our first venture into the very South of England. Crawley we already know has a huge draw from IMAX from as far afield as South Kent. We feel this will do the same. It’s the busiest cinema we’ve got south of London so I think it’s the perfect place for this concept.”

Mr Blinch added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be expanding our entertainment offering here at Cineworld Crawley and we cannot wait to welcome customers to come and try this new experience. We are always looking at the latest innovations in technology and we’re confident Cineworld Crawley will be the best place to watch a movie.”
