Dementia Care Matters are commissioning the In-Flight Theatre group from Baltimore, USA to do an aerial performance about living with a dementia.

As Amy Sweet, development support with Dementia Care Matters, said: “The performance is called Naomi’s Flight which reveals the love story of 80-year-old George caring for his wife Naomi who has Alzheimer’s disease.

“We are holding a performance for the conference, but we are also holding public shows at The Old Market Theatre on November 13 and 14.”

Amy added: “Naomi’s Flight combines theatrical storytelling with daring aerial acrobatics on three suspended metal sculptures to present an intensely-personal drama and often-humorous perspective of a family coping with age, diabetes, and dementia. Mara Neimanis draws on her own experience of her mother’s diabetes and dementia and her 81-year-old father’s challenges as the primary caregiver for her mother, to reveal the enduring bonds and obligations of love as well as a world that is upside down and inside out.

“In-Flight Theatre’s brand of aerial theatre is sometimes performed inches above the floor or sometimes 15 feet up on suspended steel sculptures.”
