Spokeswoman Pamela Kent said: “We all know how tough 2020 was for the arts and culture sector across the country and are hopeful that recent developments will ensure positive steps forward this year. Our teams are doing everything we can to support the return of Worthing Theatres and Museum and the programme our audiences love.

“As part of this we launched our Crowdfunder campaign, Save Worthing Theatres and Museum, to help us raise funds towards the imposing funding gap we are facing this year.

“The support so far has been amazing, and we have reached over £7.5k of our £10k target at this point. We just need one final push to keep that momentum going to get us to our target for January 15.

“If you are in a position to donate this would mean a great deal to us. All donations can be made at http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/wtm

There are also a selection of rewards you can also choose from: backstage tours, memberships, exclusive archaeology walks and many more.

“Worthing Theatres and Museum has been at the heart of the Worthing and wider community for almost 100 years. We exist to inspire, entertain and enrich the lives of everyone in our community through arts and culture. We do this by bringing a varied, year-round programme to our venues; running education programmes with local schools; providing affordable tickets for those who need them and offering other opportunities and schemes to ensure that everyone has access to arts and culture.

“2020 marked a new era for WTM and was set to be our biggest year so far. In early March we launched our most exciting programme to date, alongside a new look for the organisation and a refreshed membership scheme. Then along came Covid-19, the necessary closure of all our venues, and the loss of 70 per cent of our income. A particularly big blow to WTM was the necessary cancellation of our much-loved annual pantomime – not only one of our most popular events of the year, but the source of a large proportion of our annual income needed to support the organisation for the rest of the year.”
