The condensed season kicks off with BOAT Unlocked – a celebration of local artists each presenting a short performance as part of a cabaret-style variety show.

Music, comedy, theatre, dance and circus will feature, at 2pm and 6pm on July 25. Entry is unreserved and by donation only.

BOAT general manager Will Mytum said: “The re-opening marks an end to a long period of confusion and frustration, with theatre’s doors being shut nationwide since March, and almost no guidance from the government throughout the crisis.

“Whilst our thoughts are with our colleagues at indoor venues still waiting for clarity on their future, the re-opening of outdoor theatres can be the first stepping stone on the road to recovery for the sector.

“We’re delighted to be able to offer a full programme of work from July 25 and welcome anyone from Brighton and Hove and beyond to visit us for a long-overdue cultural fix. Bring the kids and a picnic and enjoy a show whilst the sun sets.

“BOAT will have various COVID-secure measures in place to keep audiences, staff and performers safe, including reduced capacity to maintain social-distancing, a one-way system for the toilets, hand sanitiser available throughout the premises, and PPE for all staff and volunteers.

“The season runs until the end of September, featuring a production of Abigail’s Party by Sarah Mann Company, music from The Brighton Beach Boys and comedy from BOAT patron Simon Evans, amongst others. The full programme is now on sale at www.brightonopenairtheatre.co.uk with additional performances to be announced in the coming weeks.”
