South Downs Society’s Green Travel Walks festival

AN annual festival of Green Travel Walks is set to begin later this month.

The South Downs Society is organising 19 walks in and around the South Downs National Park from Saturday, September 15, to Saturday, September 29.

Routes vary from a three-mile stroll to a 16-mile walk.

Jane Major, from the society, said: “Leave the car behind, check out the bus and train timetables and enjoy a day out with the South Downs Society.

“Get away from the noise and pollution of over-crowded roads to the peace and tranquillity of ancient woodlands, open downland and some of the most spectacular views in the South East of England.

“Join our walks leaders and like minded folk for the opportunity to delight in the Downs.”

All walks are free of charge and open to everyone.

Walkers should take a drink and a snack, appropriate clothing and wear sturdy shoes.

Routes include a walk across the top of the Downs, along Devil’s Dyke to Ditchling Beacon and a circular walk starting from Arundel with a pub stop in Slindon.

Anyone who would like more information on any of the walks can visit www.southdownssociety.org.uk/walkingandevents or call 01798 875073.
