MUSIC AND BEER FESTIVAL: At Shoreham Ropetackle centre

THE second annual Ropetackle Beer & Music Festival hits Shoreham on Friday, February 11, and Saturday, February 12, in association with The Dark Star

Brewing Company and Attila the Stockbroker.

Spokesman Ben Parker said: “Following the success of the inaugural festival last February, which raised much-needed revenue for the volunteer run centre, organisers have decided to make it an annual event.

“In terms of friendliness, beer variety and musical diversity, it’s a kind of indoor winter Glastonwick, really, with, as at Glastonwick, the beer sourced by the award winning Dark Star Brewery and the original music (no covers!) organised by local poet/songwriter Attila the Stockbroker.

“Many of the Glastonwick volunteer regulars combine with the Ropetackle volunteers to man the bars.

“There are three sessions: Friday and Saturday nights 7-11.30pm (admission £7) and a relaxed Saturday afternoon 12-5pm (£3).

“This year we have 25 beers from small independent breweries, including new brews, plus ciders, perries and food, and an evening musical line-up which features a real surprise – a Friday night reunion gig by Brighton’s original punk standard bearers, the legendary Piranhas!

“We thought it was never going to happen, but now you can rekindle those memories of happy nights down the Vault and the Alhambra... of course, they went on to massive chart success with Tom Hark, now ubiquitous in football stadia everywhere, but I wouidn’t hold your breath for that one!

“Completing the line-up on Friday is suave, intelligent songster Philip Jeays and the hard-hitting yet cuddly sound of Chris T-T, both with their respective bands.

“Saturday night promises to be a rumbustuous affair, with headliners The Fish Brothers combining music hall, punk and strange clothing.

“Attila the Stockbroker will compère both nights with added poetry.”
