Jazz Smugglers once again on the fund-raising trail for the Festival of Chichester

Always one of the Festival of Chichester’s staunchest supporters, John Winkler once again leads his Jazz Smugglers (above) for a pre-Christmas festival fund-raiser.

In the first two Festivals of Chichester, John and his musicians organised a string of successful events, ringing the changes with different themes and different combinations.

He’s already well advanced with his plans for the 2015 Festival of Chichester when he is intending to have a similar presence.

“What’s not to like! I think the Festival of Chichester is a brilliant thing,” John said.

In the meantime, though, he is at the heart of the festival fundraiser, Festive Jazz Café on Wednesday, December 10 at St John’s Chapel, Chichester.

The evening will feature Bosham’s Jazz Smugglers, with readings from Gareth Williams (Flying Pickets), award-nominated poet David Swann and actress Emily Rose Smith, combining for a special seasonal treat of words, music and complimentary mince pies.

There will be mellow jazz from the eight-piece jazz band when you can expect Gershwin, Cole Porter and all your favourite jazz standards from singer Maria. Jazzy versions of Christmas carols are also on the menu.

Tickets £11 from Chichester Tickets, Cloisters Shop, Chichester Cathedral, 01243 813595. www.chichestertickets.co.uk.
