Film Review: Ted 2 (7 out of 10)

If you’ve seen a Seth McFarlane project you’ll know that for most of them the viewer needs a decent knowledge of popular culture and mainly American at that.

Ted 2 is no different.

There is much to laugh at in this sequel but I and many other European audience members may well completely miss several humorous references.

I know who Jay Leno is and I’ve heard of Red Lobster restaurants.

But I didn’t know who Tom Brady is (famous American footballer) so rather struggled with that comic situation.

I’m sure other references flew over my head.

Putting that aside, if you liked the original Ted then you’ll have fun with this one.

In this story John (Mark Walhberg), is now divorced while Ted (voiced by McFarlane) is getting married to Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth).

However, a few months down the line and the pair are constantly arguing.

So they decide to have a baby to bring them closer together.

Because Ted is originally a toy bear and without the necessary equipment the couple need a sperm donor.

Cue some pretty gross humour.

However, the plot takes a turn as Ted then has to prove himself human.

Amanda Seyfried takes on a major role as a young defence lawyer who gets a fair bit of mickey taking because of her ‘resemblance’ to a Lord of the Rings character.

I really enjoyed one particularly good cameo appearance by a famous actor, plus had a good laugh at several clever nods to Star Trek and Star Wars.

Overall there’s much to enjoy in Ted 2, but it would be handy having a reference guide to understand all the jokes.
