Ex-RAF reunion at Thorney Island this weekend

At the Sailing Club at Thorney Island on May 9 around 100 ‘old’ RAF friends will meet for their fourth annual reunion, with permission from the army who run Thorney today.

This event all came about when John (Mac) McGregor sat down and wrote Fairy Tales of an SAC, an account of his five years at RAF Thorney Island during the late 60s and early 70s. John’s tales are from home and abroad, and in uniform and out, told with great humour and candour, he says.

In 2010 John came over from Spain where he lives today to publicise the book, doing book signings in Waterstones branches and BBC Radio Solent interviews. The colleagues he had written about and other ex-colleagues heard about the book, bought a copy and got back in touch with John. As a direct result of the interest a first full reunion was held in May 2012 in the Sailing Club at Thorney. The reunion has now become a very successful annual event.

“The original Fairy Tales of an SAC has now sold over 1,500 copies, in the process attracting many great comments about those halcyon days of life and laughter!”

Now four years on John has written a sequel called Fairy Tales Come True! which features both original comments about the first book, plus details of what-has-happened to the characters, male and female he wrote about and how they are today, featuring colour photos from both those old days and of the recent reunions.

John is launching his new book at the reunion on May 9 where he has already pre-sold 50 copies. The book is also available on Amazon, ISBN no ISBN-10: 1508497168, RSP £13.95.

If anyone who was at RAF Thorney Island in the 60s and 70s would like details of the reunion, then get in touch urgently with John at [email protected] or 0034 600088341.
