CLASSICAL MUSIC: Worthing Choral Society in Lancing

Under its conductor, Aedan Kerney, the society will sing Mozart’s sublime Vespers and Haydn’s thrilling Nelson Mass, at St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Lancing, on Saturday, November 20, at 7.30pm.

The Vespers is best known for the soprano solo, Laudate Dominum, but also contains some of Mozart’s finest choral music.

Many consider Haydn’s Nelson Mass to be the greatest music written by the Austrian composer.

The choir is joined by soprano Sarah Corp, a Worthing girl now singing nationally and internationally to wide acclaim, Steyning-based alto Alexandra Gibson, who performs regularly with national groups, tenor David Brown, who has performed with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and bass Charles Johnston, who is currently singing the title role of Verdi’s Falstaff in MWO’s tour of Wales and sings at La Scala, Milan, next year.

In creating what Mr Kerney predicts will be a “breathtaking” sound, the 65 singers will be joined by a professional guest chamber orchestra, led by violinist Katharine Adams, with Christ’s Hospital director of music, Adrian Bawtree, playing St Michael’s fine Peter Collins organ.
