Jo Gibson, one of the participating artists, said: “We are very much an exhibiting group. Many of us have a link to the University of Chichester, having done fine-art degrees there. We have made friends and contacts and art support groups between us, and we remain an exhibiting group, as we have done for many years.

“So this is a new thing for Artel. This idea emerged – don’t ask me why! – of doing a pop-up shop if we could find an empty shop in Chichester, a chance for us to bring out the smaller stuff and unrelated stuff. For the summer exhibition we will always have a theme that brings it all together, but for this it is all unrelated – the difference between a shop and an exhibition!

“And it has been great. We have had lots of passers-by, lots of really nice comments from people saying ‘Chichester has got nothing like this!’ It’s a good chance for people to buy something really different for friends and family for Christmas. We have got a lovely mix of 2D and 3D, all really good work.

“We have had to pool our resources and cough up with the rental which is quite a lot, but we hope it will be worth it. We have got a lovely display in the window, and we have had really lovely comments from the public.”
