WORTHING are dicing with second division promotion death after losing by one wicket at St James.
Despite 87 by captain Dominic Clapp and 31 from Ollie Rogers in a second-wicket stand of 76, they posted only 227 for nine. No other batmen in the middle order went beyond a mere start.
St James got the runs despite losing to Chris Mansell their l
ast five wickets to fall. Kyle Bowes, who had been on a hat-trick with St James at 12 for two, had taken a third wicket to leave them at 87 for four.
That leaves Worthing 32 points off the second promotion spot, occupied by Bexhill after losing to Lewes Priory, who take over from them at the top. Worthing boast no game in hand.
In the first season of the new Division 3, Goring, Findon and Bognor Regis leapfrogged Ifield to go third, fourth and fifth, although Goring are 97 points adrift of leaders Middleton.
Toby Kingsbury, Findon's Lord's 100-maker who has just returned to the club after being among the exodus of six of their Village Cup finalists, followed up his initial 42 in a team face-saving innings with this weekend a 58 in their more robust 220 for seven against Billingshurst.
Then five for 70 by leg-spinner Mark Stewart - who missed Lord's injured, helped bowl out Billingshurst for a 30-run Findon success.
Goring had it made easy by some generous Arundel batsmen offering them catching practice. Only one Arundel batsmen omitted to depart that way in their 114, which Goring polished off for three wickets with Dan Pittham reaching 62 not out before the fun was over.
