THE Worthing Open Bowls Tournament abandoned its triples event this morning (Thursday, September 4).
Flooded greens today followed a washed-out day of play on Tuesday, to make it impossible to complete, organisers Tony and Tina Phillips said.
Tony Phillips explained the decision to abandon: "With monsoon conditions forecast tomorrow (Friday) ther
e was so little prospect of completing the rounds we needed in order to leave just the semi-finals and final were left to play on Saturday."
The singles has progressed, however, with play completed on Monday and yesterday (Wednesday), so the semi-finals are set for 11am on Saturday and the final at 2pm.
Strong winds yesterday affected the quarter-finals, where last survivor, Brian Dunne of Worthing went out 21-12 to Joe Stevens of Epsom Park. Dunne and Chris Young had lost the delayed pairs final on Tuesday, 23-18 to Dave Conrwell (Lancing) and England junior international David Hubbard (Hove & Kingsway).
