MORNINGS have become a nightmare for Worthing's commuters with traffic backed up through the centre of town.
Drivers trying to escape delays and congestion on the A259 at Brooklands in East Worthing, where emergency gas main works are taking place.

Now an alternative routes up to the A27 are backed up throughout the morning and evening rush hours.

Today (Wednesday, May 21), the Herald received reports of traffic backed up from the A27 at Lyons Farm, down Sompting Road and Sompting Avenue to Broadwater Road.

One driver described the situation as "complete madness".

Yesterday (Tuesday, May 20), the centre of town was gridlocked after part of Broadwater Road was closed temporarily.

One driver contacted the Herald after it took 15 minutes to travel from Worthing High Street to Teville Gate.
