I found research by Southampton University on green travel interesting.
Travel between Southampton and Edinburgh by car, plane and train was studied and the conculsion was, not surprisingly, that the train was the greenest form of transport, while the car was the cheapest.

There was not much difference in pollution l
evels between the car and plane, until four people were packed into an economy car, which was then greener per person.

What really annoyed me was that the greenest form of transport, the train, was by far the dearest, a ticket costing £106, compared with £28 for petrol for the car.

We have government going on and on about the need for us to be greener – what chance have we got in getting on top of controlling greenhouse gases when the greenest form of transport is by far the dearest? Madness and so hypocritical.
