OH dear, I do seem to have put the cat among the pigeons, when all I asked was for drivers to try to stick to the Highway Code when negotiating the Manor roundabout, Lancing.
However, I find it quite amusing to read the excuses put forward by a reckless and inconsiderate minority in an attempt to support their "undertaking" manoeuvres.

Mr Mitchell seems to have forgotten the rule: "Give way to vehicles on your right,"
and then suggests "undertakers" can happily occupy the nearside lane. Don't try it on a motorway, Mr M!

He even has the gall to suggest that I'm selfish because I wish, in the interests of road safety, to abide by the rules of the road.

Marion Tuck, on the other hand, thinks the rule, and I quote the Highway Code: "Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake," applies to everyone but her!

She even suggests the rule is "advisory" and can be ignored. She also says most drivers don't bother to signal at roundabouts. Sorry, Ms T, you're wrong on both counts!

If these people care to check the code, they will find a diagram illustrating a car turning right, and at the third exit this vehicle has the choice of lanes.

It does not show a car "undertaking" at this point.

One would, however, normally give way to a driver in a hurry by allowing him or her to have the right-hand lane at the exit.

Any vehicle endulging in "undertaking", or overtaking on the left, is "putting lives at risk" because it is a dangerous manoeuvre, and there's nothing over-dramatic about a road traffic accident, Ms T!
