RESIDENTS at an Upper Beeding care home will provide a little extra warmth for people living on the streets this winter.
The occupants of the Valerie Manor residential care home spent six months knitting a quilt, which owner Zoe Bates now plans to donate to the Worthing Churches Homeless Projects.

Miss Bates said: "The residents always like to keep busy and have a project to work towards as a group and individuals.

"Even the gentlemen have been taking part by assisting the ladies by rolling the wool in preparation for the next squares.

"All involved are very proud of what they've achieved and are keen to see it go to a good cause.

"With more than 35 squares, it makes for a very cosy and comfy warm blanket – perfect for the particularly cold spells we are now seeing."

The residents were given needles, wool and instructions for knitting the blanket in July, aiming to complete one square a week.

The 5ft-square blanket was completed just in time for Christmas and will now be donated to the Worthing Churches' Homeless Projects.
