MEMBERS and friends of Steyning Probus Club have gathered to celebrate the group's 20th anniversary.
The club's first meeting was on May 15, 1989, at Birches Coffee Shop in Steyning High Street – now the St Barnabas House hospice charity shop.

Member Jim Lang said: "Steyning Probus was formed by Steyning and Adur Valley Rotary Club – now known as Steyning and Henfield Rotary Club – and the aim of the new club was 'to promote fellowship in a congenial atmosphere among retired and semi-retired professional and business men'.

"Two of the club's founder-members, Ken Stotesbury and Fred Taylor, remain members today."

Special

The club, now boasting about 40 members, meets on the first Monday of the month at the Steyning Centre, in Fletcher's Croft, Steyning.

Meetings involve a two-course lunch, provided by the Norfolk Arms, in Church Street, Steyning, followed by a discussion about members' recent activities, and a talk by a guest speaker.

Mr Lang said: "Regular social events are also a big part of our yearly calendar, for example, day and evening outings to various places of interest, special lunches, dinners and so on.

"The ladies in our lives are included in most of these events."

More details about the club, along with membership information, can be found at www.steyningprobus.com
