THIS year's Steyning Country Fair – the biggest event of the annual Steyning Festival – was hailed as "the best one yet" by visitors who packed the town's streets.
Despite a rainy start to the day, the sun came out and a host of street entertainers amused the crowds.

"It went very well. We were really lucky with the weather," said Sara Bowers, of the Steyning Bookshop.

"It seemed awful at about eight o'clock and we were thinking 'not again', but it cleared up.

"There was a lovely atmosphere."

As well as barn dancing, a jazz band, food stalls and clowns, there was a miniature farmyard in the High Street car park.

Where's Wally

"The most popular thing was some young chicks which one of the farmers brought along at the last minute," said Sara.

A game of Where's Wally in the garden of the Steyning Bookshop also proved popular, especially when Wally escaped to the High Street and the 180 children taking part had to find him.

"I think one little boy actually found him seven times," said Sara.

The Steyning Festival continues until Sunday, June 7.
