PLANS are coming along for a huge community celebration in Upper Beeding and Bramber – thought to be the first of its kind for more than half a century.
The Beeding and Bramber summer fête will be on June 28 – and youngsters from Upper Beeding Primary School were asked to design posters to help publicise the event.

Seven-year-old Olivia Burgess was chosen as the winner. Her design, along with those by three runners-up, will feature on promotional material for the fête.

The Rev Tom Duncanson, minister at Upper Beeding Baptist Church, is one of the organisers of the fête.

He told the Herald: "It is the first major community event for more than 50 years.

"It is a community event that comes out of the partnership between the church and the school.

"A lot of people had been doing their own thing for a number of years. Together, the village hall, the Baptist church and the primary school are trying to recreate the sense of community."

Mr Duncanson said plans included an arena offering various attractions. He hoped lots of different groups and organisations would be represented. Anyone who would like to get involved with the event should send an email to Helen Appleyard, at theappleyards@googlemail.com
