AIR cadets in Steyning were flying high at their annual inspection, as they received awards for their performance.
The 1140 Steyning squadron of the Air Training Corps was also visited by Wing Commander Haswell, who presented John West, secretary of the civilian committee, with a limited-edition copy of History of 1140 (Steyning) Squadron Air Training Corps, 1941 to 2007.
The book, by Christopher Harland (pictured above), who joined the unit as a civilian instructor in 1982, is the result of several years of research by the author and includes hundreds of colour photographs of squadron activities.
It is also records the names and length of service of all staff and cadets up until the end of 2007.
Commendation The cadet awards at the inspection were – best recruit, Cadet Carpenter; best junior cadet, Cadet Barnett; best shot, Sergeant Scott; sports cadet, Cadet Warrant Officer Knott; best attendance, Cadet Carpenter; best cadet, Sergeant Scott.
Wing Commander Haswell also presented a certificate of commendation by the Commandment Air Cadets to Ian Selwyn Yates for 41 years of service to the Air Training Corps.
Mr Harland's book is available from the Air Training Corps.
The squadron parades at the Cadet Centre, in Shooting Field, Steyning, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, when visitors and recruits (aged 13 to 18 years) are welcome.
