Raiders announced last week that their former head coach would be returning in a new role, while Jody Levett and Ben Coulson will become first-team coaches.

The trio will be replacing Kieron Dawson and Nick Buoy.

Davies admits the club have ambitions to make a return to National 1 but says it will be tough to reach those heights.

In his role as director of rugby at Cornish Pirates, he watched a lot of National 2 South and believes it is improving all the time.

He said: “In my role with Cornish Pirates, I watched a lot of National 2 South. It’s a tough league that is improving all the time.

“I looked at a few players from that league with a view of bringing them into the professional ranks.

“It is quite an equal division but more and more money is being spent now, so it is not an easy league to try to get out of. This club has done it before and the aim is to do so again.

“I’m sure Ben and Jody will be hoping they can do that.”
