HOMEFIELD Park Bowling Club’s Helen Jones, Lorraine Kuhler and Sian Honnor were crowned national triples champions at Leamington Spa this afternoon.
The trio defeated Sussex colleagues Lorraine Hume, Mary Williams and Denise Hodd, from Polegrove, 18-17 in the final.
The match, the first time in history that two teams from the same county had met in the final of the Women’s National Triples Championship, saw the Homefield Park trio claim a four on the last end to win the title.
In the semi-finals, Honnor skipped her team to a 21-6 win against the Cambridgeshire trio of Rosemary Addison, Sue Alexander and Ellen Falkner from St Neots BC – less than two weeks after Honnor and Falkner had featured in the same team that won the gold medal for England in the women’s triples at the Commonwealth Games.
The second semi final saw Polegrove defeat Carol Barnard, Margaret Insley and Katherine Rednall, from Felixstowe & Suffolk, 18-14.
