UPPER BEEDING Football Club are looking forward to the upcoming season in the newly-named Southern Combination Football League.
The club have moved up into the league, which was formerly known as the Sussex County League, after finishing fifth in the West Sussex League last season.
Beeding played in the Sussex County League from 2002 to 2006 and manager Josh Baldock cannot wait for the new season to get underway.
He said: “It’s been hard work getting back to where we are but this isn’t the end of a journey, it’s the beginning of a new project.
“We suffered back-to-back relegations and went down into Division 1 of the West Sussex League but, since then, we’ve rebuilt. We survived relegation on the final day two years ago and then last season we finished fifth in a very strong division.
“The top five teams were all very good and we had some good games against Ockley, Lavant, Cowfold and Predators, who all finished above us. It was a good season and we were happy with what we achieved.”
Looking ahead to the new season, which will begin for Beeding in Division 2 on August 22, Baldock said: “It’s exciting for the club and we’ll be looking to be competitive.
“There will be set-backs throughout the season but we’ve just got to make sure that, at the end of the season, we’re happy with what we’ve achieved.”
