Shoreham Football Club returned to winning ways with a comfortable 4-1 victory at home to lowly Wick on Saturday.

Mussels went into the game on after back-to-back cup defeats and manager Bryan O’Toole said: “It was good to get the win after the two cup defeats, just to get the confidence going again more than anything.

“We raced into a two-goal lead but they got one back just before half-time, with pretty much the only shot they had.

“We scored two more in the second half but, on another day, we could have had a lot more.

“It should have been all over by half-time, really, with the amount of chances we had. It just wasn’t George Gaskin’s day in front of goal.

“I’m sure that if he’d scored one, he’d have gone on to score six but it was just one of those days in front of goal for him.”

Shoreham went ahead after just five minutes when Callum Donaghey headed home Scott Packer’s cross.

Jamie Cradock rifled home to make it 2-0 from another Packer cross on 18 minutes and Mussels had numerous chances to add a third.

Gaskin went close on more than one occasion, before Wick got a goal back when Andy Brown scored from a long-range quickly taken free kick just before half-time.

Chances continued to come Shoreham’s way and they added a third on the hour when Tom Burton headed home Joe Dryer’s free kick.

Mussels then got a fourth 15 minutes from time when Rob O’Toole and Gaskin combined for Packer to score his sixth goal of the season.

The win was Mussels’ 12th from 13 league matches this season and keeps them top of the Southern Combination League, two points clear of second-placed Pagham.
