Shoreham Football Club boss Bryan O’Toole was delighted with his side’s 2-1 league win at Loxwood on Tuesday as they continued their 100 per cent start to the season.

Mussels have won all three of their matches this season, after beginning the campaign with a 3-0 FA Cup win at Worthing United and then easing to a 5-1 win at home to Hailsham in their league opener on Saturday.

Shoreham made a bright start in their Southern Combination League Premier Division match at Loxwood.

Richard Greenfield missed an open goal before George Gaskin headed them into a eighth-minute lead from Mitchell Hand’s corner.

Rob O’Toole then powerfully headed home Scott Packer’s cross to make it 2-0 after 16 minutes.

Mussels could have increased their lead but Joe Keehan smashed a penalty against the bar, before Shoreham keeper Josh Heyburn made an excellent save late in the half.

In a scrappy second half, Gaskin had Mussels’ best opportunity before Loxwood got a goal back through Mark Cave 15 minutes from time.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser but Shoreham held on for all three points and boss O’Toole said: “It was the best we have played as a group and we stuck together, which was pleasing to see. It’s been a good start and we’ll keep ticking games off one at a time. I’m really pleased with everybody at the moment.”

Mussels entertain Ryman League South Division side Dorking Wanderers in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday (3pm).

SHOREHAM: Heyburn; Hartley, Pearson, O’Hagan, Hand; Packer, Storrie, J.Keehan, Greenfield; Gaskin, R.O’Toole. Subs: Barker (Greenfield 55), Stevens (Gaskin 89), Zydonik, Cradock, Measor.
