SHOREHAM Football Club player-manager Kane Louis described his side’s win against Eastbourne Town on Saturday as their best of the season.

It was Mussels’ first success in four games in County League Division 1 and Louis was delighted with his team’s showing.

He said: “It was by far our best win in the league this season.

“Eastbourne Town are going to be up there fighting for the title come the end of the year, so for us to take all three points is fantastic.

“We were really unlucky to come away with nothing at Pagham last weekend and that was hurting all week

“I just told the players to go out and show me what they can do.

“Everyone was brilliant and it just goes to show that we can match any side in this division on our day.

“This is the sort of result that we have been waiting for to kick-start our season and, hopefully, we can move in the right direction now.

“But we had a really good win against Newhaven earlier on in the year and failed to follow that on, so we know we will have to keep working hard.

“If we put in the same work-rate and commitment as we did in this game, we will have a really good end to the season, which will give the club a big boost.”

Matt Fleming fired the home side in front on 13 minutes with a contender for goal of the season. Shoreham strung together a number of passes before Fleming controlled the ball and crashed a 30-yard strike into the top corner.

High-flying Eastbourne could have levelled ten minutes later but Liam Baitup’s shot struck the crossbar.

Mussels doubled their advantage 15 minutes into the second half when Kai Bichard’s angled left-footed effort found the bottom corner for the striker’s second goal in as many games.

Shoreham dominated proceedings from then on and nearly made it 3-0 on 80 minutes when Alex Laing was played through but he shot wide.

The win moved Mussels up a place to 14th in the table.
