Lancers hit late winner at Pagham

A LAST-GASP winner gave Lancing Football Club a 2-1 win away to Pagham on Tuesday evening.

Leaders Lancing bounced back from their 4-1 defeat at Horsham on Saturday and the win kept them top of the table.

They are two points ahead of second-placed Newhaven, who they host on Saturday, after Newhaven won 6-1 at home to Eastbourne United on Tuesday.

Lancers took the lead on 11 minutes when Richard Greenfield curled a shot past stranded Pagham keeper James Binfield.

Pagham almost responded instantly but Dan Simmonds struck a post less than a minute later.

Greenfield was then denied by a tremendous save from Binfield, before Pagham’s Dan Martin missed two chances just after the half-hour mark.

Both sides went close, before Simmonds drew Pagham level on the hour.

Just as Pagham thought they had held on for a point, Lancing substitute Jaz Rance smashed home the winner in added time.
