Joe Keehan scored twice as Shoreham Football Club beat Loxwood 3-2 after extra-time in the second round of the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening.
Scott Packer’s cross from the right evaded everyone and dropped into the far corner to give Mussels the lead on 32 minutes, but Loxwood levelled within a minute through Byron Napper.
Keehan tapped home in a goalmouth scramble to put Shoreham back ahead on 63 minutes but Loxwood again equalised immediately, this time through Toby House.
With no further goals in normal time, Mussels got the winner four minutes into extra-time when Packer headed Graham Martin’s cross to Keehan, who nodded home.
Shoreham could have added a fourth but Jack Rowe-Hurst, making his first appearance since July after a knee injury, blazed a penalty over.
Mussels boss Bryan O’Toole said: “Silly errors gifted them their goals but we upped the ante in the second half and did well.”
Shoreham do not play again until a week Saturday and O’Toole said: “It’s pleasing to go into a little break on the back of a win. It’s always nice to keep playing when you’ve just won a game but I think a little rest will do us good.”
SHOREHAM: Heyburn; Hartley, Zydonik, Martin, Denyer, O’Hagan, Packer, J.Keehan, Greenfield, Burton, Cradock. Subs: Goldson (Burton 60), Rowe-Hurst (Greenfield 62), R.O’Toole, Storrie.
