PORTSLADE Cricket Club continued their excellent form on Saturday with a eighth win from nine games in Sussex League Division 4.
Portslade won by 30 runs at home to Hellingly to remain second in the table and 25 points ahead of third-placed Wisborough Green.
Captain Paul Glover struck 128 as Portslade declared on 240-9, before Steven Case claimed 7-86 to bowl his side to victory.
Portslade wicketkeeper David Wainwright said: “It was a good result as we had a few players missing and they put up a good fight.
“Paul hit our first hundred in the Sussex League and batted really well. They bowled a bit loosely to him early on and he punished them.
“We had a bit of a collapse as we went from 201-2 to 201-6 and they then got off to a bit of a flyer in their innings.
“Steve pulled it back, though, and picked up another seven wickets.”
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Wainwright said: “We’re 25 points ahead of Wisborough and play them last game of the season, so it could be a promotion decider.
“They’ve still got to play Steyning as well, though, so if Steyning were to beat them it could open up a bit more of a gap for us.”
