Mamoany's spell puts Crawley to the sword

Mamoany bowled an uninterrupted 17 over stint, ending with figures of 6-30, to help bundle Crawley out for 120 in pursuit of 240.

Portslade had Tom Nickolson to thank for getting them over 200 as his unbeaten 66 and an impressive knock of 63 from skipper Glover helped their side to 239-7, before they declared after 52.4 overs.

Glover admitted the win was the perfect way to follow up last week’s demolition of Findon.

He said: “It was another really emphatic display from us.

“We had a game plan which was executed really well and we were well deserved of that victory.

“We were wobbling a little at 61-3, then 74-4, but Tom played a fantastic knock.

“He batted with such maturity in those middle overs and gave me a licence in the latter overs.

“I’d say Andy’s spell was the best I have ever seen from him. To bowl 17 overs in succession was astounding and to return six wickets was fantastic.”

Glover decided to bat first but other than Joel Crook (35) Portslade’s top-order struggled and they found themselves 61-3 and 74-4 at one stage.

Nickolson played a vital knock and remained right until the very end for his side.

After the sixth-wicket went down, Nickolson was joined by skipper Glover with their side 135-6.

However, their stand of 104 turned the game in Portslade’s favour, before Glover eventually went for 63.

Nickolson stayed and ended unbeaten on 66 as they posted 239-7 from 52.4 overs.

Portslade knew Crawley overseas Kunaal Kapoor could be the difference in the chase but when Glover got him for 58 the game was all but over.

Harry Chaudary was the next highest scorer with 17 as Crawley slumped to 120 all out in 35.3 overs.

Mamoany was on fire with Crawley unable to cope and he ended with six wickets to his name.

As well as Mamoany, Mark Gravett collected two wickets, while Steven Case and Glover picked up one each.

Following their success, Portslade have now moved up to third, level on points with second-placed Chichester Priory Park, who are in the promotion places.

Glover knows how tight the division is this season and is refusing to get too carried away.

He said: “We’ve seen what a couple of defeats or victories can do in this league.

“It’s such a tough ask to beat any team week-in, week-out.

“We’ve moved up to third now, which is great, but we know we must keep performing.

“On Saturday, we face our rivals Steyning and that one won’t be easy.

“Every game is equally as tough, so we need to be at our best to have any chance of winning.”
