SHOREHAM Rugby Club captain Gavin Cox is looking forward to Saturday's local derby with Norfolk Arms when he hopes his side can avenge their defeat earlier in the season.
Third from bottom Shoreham lost 38-7 to sixth-placed Norfolk in September, and Cox said: "We got battered by them earlier in the season. Taking nothing away from their performance, but we were really poor.

"We're raring to go for the game and I hope we can play how we played in the second half at St Francis on Saturday."

Shoreham won 10-0 at St Francis in Sussex Intermediate League on Saturday to end their two-year unbeaten home run.

A poor display from Shoreham in the first half saw them lucky to go into half-time level at 0-0.

After heated discussions at the break, the second half saw a much-changed Shoreham performance.

After five minutes of increasing pressure, St Francis knew they had a tough ask to preserve their two-year unbeaten home record.

Despite the increasing Shoreham pressure, the first scoring opportunity presented itself to Adam Shaw in the form of a penalty some 55 metres out and, despite the legs, the ball drifted just wide.

A Shoreham rolling maul then sparked into life from a Nick Gray take off from a lineout 20 metres out. Shoreham made the yards and Gareth Horton was convinced he had bundled the ball over the line, but the referee was unsighted and awarded a Shoreham scrum five metres out.

From this, Chris Reynolds picked up from the base and fed Mike Stringer to bundle over in the corner to give them the lead.

Shoreham kept up the pressure, and from Mick Shaw's penalty, Bryn Philips put the ball into the corner for the lineout.

The forwards then mauled 15 yards and crossed the line in view of the referee to award John Marriott his first league try to seal the win.
Cox added: "It was a fantastic second half performance, although we cannot take the first 40 minutes off against too many Sussex Intermediate sides and expect to come away with all four points."

SHOREHAM: Brinson, Jefferies, Bryne, J.Marriott, Bird, M.Shaw, Gray, Reynolds, Garner, Philips, Trimm, A.Shaw, R.Marriott, Stringer (Brown 75), Cox. Subs: Horton (Bird 30), Eyre-Walker (Reynolds 60), Brown (Stringer 70).

Norfolk Arms slipped to sixth in the table on Saturday with their 24-8 defeat at East Grinstead 2nd.
