MICKEY DEMETRIOU has today (July 29) announced he will be leaving Worthing to join Ryman Premier side Bognor Regis Town, who were relegated from Conference South last season.
Versatile Demetriou had an impressive campaign in what was his debut year for the Rebels last season. He scored nine goals in 34 appearances and played upfront, as well as left midfield and left back.

He was the final player from last year's squad to announce his decision on where he would be playing next year.

Demetriou trialled at Leicester City last season, and said: "I only made my decision late last week. I just want to play at the highest standard I can and this has been a major influence in my decision - which has been a really hard one to make.

"I thoroughly enjoyed last season at Worthing and, although I was disappointed not to get promoted, it was an incredible season, especially with the 21-game unbeaten run."

Demetriou is optimistic and expecting big things from the new look Worthing outfit next season, and said: "I definitely think they will get promoted this season and I think they will push for the title, as the players are good enough.

"I will always thank Worthing for the great opportunity they have given me. The fans there have been unbelievable. They are always louder than any team we play and give great support. I'd like to thank them a lot."

Demetriou, who spent three years at Rebels in the youth and first teams, said: "I will still stay in touch at Worthing and try to help my dad (Paul) out as much as I can with the youth team.

"And I will try and get down and watch as many games as I can next year."

On his own future at Bognor, where he will link up with Darin Killpartrick, his coach at Chichester College, Demetriou said: "We'll be targeting to get back into the Conference next season. Playing there would be a dream come true. I hope to play as high as I can but, if nothing else, the Conference would be great."
