VC JUBILEE Cycling Club were named club of the year at the 2008 Sussex Sports Awards.
The awards were hosted at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton, and were to celebrate sporting accomplishments and achievements throughout the year.

Shoreham-based Jubilee won club of the year, which was accepted by coach Sally Page and young members
Ben Gerrey, Nick Smith and Ben Miller.

Page said: "What a wonderful recognition of the club in its 10th anniversary year.

"I'm so glad that young members from the club are here to collect the award, as the club is about them as well."

Club chairman David Gerrey said: "VC Jubilee is an extremely friendly mountain bike club aimed at giving riders, of all abilities and backgrounds, the opportunity to see what they can achieve from cycling.

"The great strength of the club is that it encourages participation from those who just enjoy recreational cycling, with no competitive element, right up to those challenging for world honours.
"I would struggle to find a definition of a good sports club."

Cycling also prevailed in two other awards. The coach of the year was awarded to Anthony Roger for his volunteer coaching activities at Preston Park Youth Cycling Club.

He has been instrumental in the planning and setting up of activities during the 10 years the club has been running.

Rogers is also key to the partnership activites between Preston Park and VC Jubilee, who are the development section for Brighton Excelsior.

He said: "I would like to thank Roy Page of the British Cycling South East manager for his nomination.

"I am honoured to be nominated and delighted with the award."

The disabled sports personality of the year was awarded to David Stone, who won double Paralympic Gold in Beijing.

He was announced the winner, for his exceptional achievements throughout the year.

Stone was a regular competitor in the Brighton Excelsior club time trials, from their base in Shoreham, while he is studying at Sussex University.
