PORTSLADE Cricket Club slipped to their third defeat of the season on Saturday after they lost their last six wickets for only 17 runs.
Chasing East Preston's 232-3, Portslade raced to 79-0 off 13 overs. But both openers, Paul Glover (37 runs) and captain Sam Jones (40) were out without another run being added.
Portslade then lost wickets at regular intervals before they collapsed at the end.
East Preston had won the toss and elected to bat but Portslade soon reduced them to 20-2. Brothers Sean and Darryl Rebbetts then put on 110 for the third wicket before opener Sean was out for a 99-ball 84 after striking 15 fours.
Darryl, who was dropped on 48 by Tom Lowry, then added an unbroken 102 for the fourth wicket with Tom Reeves. Darryl finished unbeaten on 83, with nine fours, and Reeves hit 42 not out from 51 balls.
Portslade captain Sam Jones said: "We were good in some areas on Saturday, but poor in others. There were a few misfields which cost us runs, and then a lot of our batsmen got themselves out.
"We never should have lost the game, and were happy to be chasing 233, but we didn't even get close.
"We just lost wickets at the wrong time, and it's a wake-up call for us."
Portslade stay seventh, 38 points clear of second-bottom Selsey.
