INTERESTING to see the smiling face of Jim Redwood grinning at us from the front of the Shoreham Herald last week.
He is going to fix it for us, apparently.
Thousands of new homes are to be built, with the support of the community.
Just whom is he trying to kid?
These homes are going to be built, anyway.
Our views will count for nothing when the amo
unt of funds involved is so huge.
So the focus will be on "affordable".
Everyone knows, because it happened with the great council house sell-off, that these properties are affordable only to the first owners.
They are then sold on at market value, so that affordable property has then disappeared.
Also, the thousands of jobs will be only building work.
These will go when the project has been completed.
To get the enormity of this project in proportion, there are 17,500 people living in Shoreham; 10,000 new homes could house 30,000 people – a new town bigger than Shoreham is now.
Imagine getting over Norfolk Bridge at rush hour.
What about more police to deal with the rising crime figures, a new doctors' surgery, more schools, and how about some parking areas?
Shoreham, as we know it, will be tramped underfoot.
Just look at the giant Dalek at the bottom of our High Street; that's how much these people care.
Jim won't care.
He's being paid to plan a huge development and, when it's planned, watch out – it will be built.
The builders and planners who will have invested will make sure of that.
So, when the end of 2010 arrives and we have that public inquiry, we can say what we like; it won't make a jot of difference.
Mind you, I can't wait to see where they are going to put the new beach.
Maybe the Holmbush Centre car park.
