AS recipient for Adur of the luscious, fresh, well-travelled baguette at Adur's Olympic celebration, may I point out to Monty Street that the baguette, being French, was the ideal baton to hand-over to Christine Brown, mayor of Worthing.
You can see from your photograph that she has a winning way with the baguette hurling.

The modern Olympic idea is a French fantasy, which an elderly Baron imagined to be something akin to the original.

That is why the official language of the
International Olympic Committee is French.

Of course, if we really wanted to copy the Ancient Greeks then it would save us borrowing squillions of pounds from who knows where.

The competitions would be greatly reduced in number, it would be men only, and they would all be as nature intended.

No gold medals, we don't have any gold anyway, just laurel wreaths to demonstrate the transience of fame.

We could all be back home in time for tea.

Lapsang Souchong, anyone?

Chairman, Adur District Council
